It has been stated by many major international economic agencies that most of the world’s wealth is being accumulated in the hands of few; such a wealth gap gives rise to the feeling of hatred amongst rich and poor. The organized Zakat Management System can play a big role in the current scenario, where the disparity of wealth between poor and affluent class is on its peak.  Zakat is a tool, which gives government a power to take the money from the rich and spend it on the welfare of the poor. Considering the context of India, where there is no government authority to collect and disburse Zakat, the responsibility of collecting and disbursing Zakat becomes responsibility of Muslim organizations.

Keeping this in mind, Association of Muslim Professionals, AMP started the project of Zakat Collection and Disbursement four years ago with a focus on Education and Self-employment.  The social empowerment of Indian Muslim cannot happen without progress in education and financial inclusion of the poor Muslim households.

It would be noteworthy that AMP had initiated its 'Zakat Fund’ four years back with a Zakat collection of merely Rs. 2 lakhs, the corpus of which had jumped fourfold to around 8 lakhs in 2014 and 20 lakhs in 2015. In 2016 seeing the incremental growth in the collection amount, we incorporated two additional objectives in our Zakat mission, viz. helping Muslim IIT aspirants and adopting orphans. The Zakat Collection for the year 2016 was more around 39 lakhs.

AMP is very happy to announce that it has completed the disbursement of its Higher Education Scholarship to 103 Students, Basic Education Scholarships to 120 Orphan students, AMP IIT Scholarship to 5 Students and disbursement of financial assistance to 50 Families to start small Business for the Year 2016.

We provided approx. 1.7 lakh rupees Monetary Support to each needy students who has secured admission in IIT and needed financial assistance. These are the gems of the society and AMP hopes that through this endeavour it will help these gems shine brighter and they can always come back to help more of the needy people.

AMP provided the support for the educational expenses of a needy orphan child so that the child is not deprived of even the basic education for want of a guardian. Through this endeavour AMP intends that the orphans in the community should not feel left behind or isolated and the community is right behind them to support them.
