AMP Zakat Fund Report 2017

358 Deserving & Underprivileged Lives touched by AMP Zakat Fund

It has been stated by many major international economic agencies that most of the world’s wealth is being accumulated in the hands of few; such a wealth gap gives rise to the feeling of hatred amongst rich and poor.  The organized Zakat Management System can play a big role in such scenario, where the disparity of wealth between poor and affluent class is at its peak.  Zakat is a tool, which gives the Government in Muslim Countries an authority to take the money from the rich and spend it on the welfare of the poor. In the Indian context, where there is no government authority to collect and distribute Zakat, the responsibility of collecting and distributing it, becomes responsibility of accountable Muslim Organizations.

Keeping this in mind, Association of Muslim ProfessionalsAMP started the project of Zakat Collection and Distribution five years ago with a focus of utilizing it on Education and Self-employment.  It would be noteworthy that AMP had initiated its 'Zakat Fund (AZF) five years back with a Zakat collection of merely Rs. 2 lakhs, the corpus of which had jumped multi-fold to more than Rs. 43 lakhs in the year 2017.

We are extremely happy to announce that AMP has completed the distribution of its Zakat Fund collected for the year 2017.  We disbursed Higher Education Scholarship to 112 Students, Basic Education Scholarships to 174 Orphan Students and distribution of Self Employment Financial Assistance to 71 Families to start small Businesses and a Special Assistance to a very talented & special case for UPSC coaching in the Year 2017.

Through the Higher Education Scholarship project AMP supported the financially needy students pursuing professional courses mainly in the field of Engineering, Medical and Management Education. These Scholarships ranging from Rs. 10,000 – Rs. 50,000 were distributed to most deserving and meritorious students selected from the applications received across India.

The Self-Employment Assistance of largely Rs. 25000 each was provided to young, talented but unemployed youth within the community to start a small business with the objective of promoting Self-Employment. This assistance was provided across India, mainly focussing on rural areas. One of the best examples of this initiative was the provision of Bosch Tool Kits to 6 Technicians in Gulbarga who were overjoyed to receive hi-quality equipment. The objective of AMP Zakat Fund is to help make the Zakat Seekers of today become the Zakat Givers of tomorrow.

We provided the financial support for the educational expenses of needy Orphan children through AMP’s vast network of schools so that these children are not deprived of even the basic education for want of a guardian. Through this endeavour AMP intends that the orphans in the community should not feel left behind or isolated and the community is right behind to support them.

Lastly, this year we gave Special Assistance to a very talented and highly meritorious but underprivileged girl of our Community and sponsored her for UPSC coaching in an Institute of high repute in Delhi. We are funding her entire coaching and stay expense for a period of 1 year.

Note: Our Zakat Collection and Distribution are completely transparent and if one wishes to find out the exact amounts collected and distributed, he or she can visit our website www.ampusa.org to know more, or one can visit our office and check our records, we will be more than happy to provide you with all the information.
